2022 SA Short Course State Championships wrap up

15 July 2022

Great results by Clovercrest!

2022 Short Course State Championships saw Clovercrest competing with 26 individual swimmers, and 2 more swimmers joining us for relays. This is our biggest team in many years, and they did not disappoint! We finished 9th club overall, which is an impressive effort for a small club. The girls finished 5th in individual swimming events too, well and truly punching above our weight! Our overall PB rate from entry times was 84%.

Representing Clovercrest at States for the first time, we had Kade, Erik, Chloe, Will, Flora-lily, Luca, and Victoria. It is very exciting to have so many new swimmers joining us, and you all did us proud.

Also competing, we had: Hannah C, Piper, Ebony, Ella, Jaz, Connor, Lachlan, Steph, Savannah, Ethan, Damien, Lilly, Cortez, Flora-lily, Missy, Ruby, Alesha, Jackson, Daniel, and Emily, with Amber and Louis joining us for relay day.

We won 28 individual medals, with 9 medal winners. Congratulations to:

· Jaz (6x🥇)

· Piper (2x🥇, 3x🥈)

· Alesha (2x🥇, 2x🥉)

· Stephanie (1x🥈, 2x🥉)

· Missy (1x🥈, 2x🥉)

· Savannah (1x🥈, 1x🥉)

· Ebony (1x🥈, 1x🥉)

· Connor (1x🥈)

· Emily (2x🥉)

Congratulations also to our girls 8-12y 4x 50 medley relay team (Savannah, Alesha, Piper, Ebony) who won silver🥈🥈🥈🥈. This is our first relay medal for quite some time, with an awesome swim by the team.

We had several swimmers make finals. Well done to all our finalists: Hannah, Piper, Ebony, Will, Ella, Connor, Stephanie, Savannah, Ethan, Lilly, Cortez, Flora-lily, Ruby, Alesha, Daniel, and Emily.

Fun facts:

💙 The furthest distance swam in events: Piper: 3.7km!

💚 Most number of swims: Steph- 15 (heats and finals) with Daniel (14) and Connor (13) not far behind!

💙 The biggest PB drop was Savannah (19.84 seconds for 200 back), with other notable mentions by Connor (18.95 secondss for 200 back), Daniel (17.20 seconds for 800 free), Alesha (14.74 seconds for 200 free), Flora-lily (11.86 seconds for 200 free) and Piper (11.22 seconds for 200 fly).

💚 There were many exciting races, but most talked about appears to be the 12y girls 200 freestyle final, which was a very tight finish, with Piper taking 2nd and Savannah 3rd. This race would have also had the loudest cheering by Clovercrest too!

💙 #1 supporter goes to Meg, who came to most sessions to cheer on her team!

A huge thank you must go to Jill and John for their efforts in preparing swimmers for the event, and for their tireless efforts over the 5 days. We are very fortunate to have such fantastic and knowledgeable coaches. Thanks also to those who filled Team Manager and Officials roles over the 5 days. This is an essential and important role, our swimmers could not swim without this support, and we appreciate all the efforts.

We now move on to August events, with Ethan, Daniel, and Piper representing Clovercrest at the Northern Territory Open Water Championships, and Alesha, Ebony, Savannah, Will, Jaz, and Steph representing SA and Clovercrest at the 2022 School Swimming Championships in Brisbane. Good luck to all! 🍀🍀🍀
